Why Having Facebook Fans Is So Important
“I ‘Like’ you”. What does that mean? A lot. When Someone likes your Facebook Page, they open up lines of communication that are hard to beat. And best of all, it’s FREE!
There are two big communication lines this post will focus on: status updates and direct message updates.
When you update your Facebook Page’s Status, it doesn’t only show on your wall, it shows up in the news feed of everyone who likes your page. That means that if you have 637 people that like your page, you have the opportunity to speak to your fans EVERY time you update your page’s status. What’s more, focus on writing good status updates and you just may go viral when your fans “share” your status updates.
DIRECT MESSAGE UPDATES
Admins of a Facebook Page have an amazing ability to send updates right to the messages box of those who like the page. You can take this messaging to another level by targeting who this update is sent to. For example, say you have 1,000 fans, with half of them living in LA and the other half in NYC. You are hosting an event in two weeks in LA. You may want to make sure your LA fans find out about the event and are afraid they will miss it in their normal stream. You can send an update that will sit in your LA fans message box until they read it. You can also target my age and sex if you’d like.
The important thing to remember here is that both of these messaging benefits are free. You just need to get people to like your page. To give you an idea of just how powerful these capabilities can be, look at Justin Bieber’s Page. This second (it will probably change before I finish writing this sentence) JB has 24,812,048 fans (sending one email to that many people would cost him at least 24k). How do you think he uses his Facebook Page for updates? You guessed it. Free promotions for his new works. Don’t forget that every show he does, he has the ability to send direct messages to his fans in the towns he hits.
Now, you may not have 24 MM crazed girls that want to follow everything you do, but hopefully you see the value of adding as many fans as you can to your page.
